Below you can see different angles of how the light brick is neatly stacked and hidden into what we can start to recognize as Bastion’s head. At first glance, it seems unnecessary as most of these don’t really feature any detailing, but let’s see how it turns out eventually.Ī light brick supplied in the set is a nice surprise. It may make one think subconsciously that you’re getting a larger than expected build.īastion comes in four bags with a single instruction booklet and a single sheet of stickers with 12 labels that will end up on the build. While the front of the box pictures the usual finished model, the back is vertically printed and features a standing, digitally rendered Bastion that has a special effects glow like a J.J. The box art for the Overwatch series is unique. The packaging, instructions, and sticker sheet If you want to get them early, some of these LEGO sets are available for pre-order from the LEGO Shop online. This build attempts to capture the essence of Bastion in both these modes. Its alternate mode is in the form of a turret, leaving it immobile but highly dangerous. In the game, Bastion’s default mode is a bipedal robot armed with a sub-machine gun. The set will be released in January and includes 602 pieces, with a retail price of $49.99 USD - the largest character build in this release of six sets. Let’s take a look at the second-largest set in the theme, 75974 Bastion. It is instantly identifiable from its in-game version and the impressive firepower on display will send a shiver down the spine of any Overwatch player who had the misfortune to assault a payload that was guarded by our bullet-spewing friend. We recently reviewed 75953 D.Va and Reinhardt from the latest tie-up between LEGO and Blizzard, resulting in a complete line of LEGO Overwatch sets. In practice, it’s not the most complicated of transformations, but nevertheless it works seamlessly and it’s a credit to the designers that such a dramatically different appearance is achieved. A hidden red Fx Light that switches the colour of Bastion’s eye when he snaps into combat mode is the sort of Easter Egg that reflects the design team’s fan-pleasing immersion in Overwatch lore.Ĭollapse the legs and twist the torso and, like magic, the squat, implacable form of Sentry Mode appears. ![]() ![]() While the earlier, smaller 75987 Omnic Bastion release missed the mark slightly with its ‘facial’ likeness, the larger model hits it perfectly with a spot-on recreation of his cyclopean mug. Beefy, ratcheted limbs allow a range of poses that bring to life what could easily have been rigid and inexpressive. In Recon Mode (Bastion’s upright, humanoid configuration), the in-game Bastion is not an agile machine, and the designers have done a fantastic job of capturing the weight and sheer stompiness of a hero that clumps rather than glides around maps. In this way, there is no compromise to stability and sturdiness in the chunky lower portions. Although there is ample use of plain square and rectangular bricks, clever use of well-placed circular plates and studs create the illusion of joints, gears and further gubbins, without clogging the model up with too much detail.
